Elementary Music Festival (EMF)EMF is an annual district-wide festival open to 5th Grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus students demonstrating superior skills and superb participation in class. Participants prepare the festival music independently, with some help from their school music teacher.
If you're selected for EMF, you'll have 3 rehearsals and a special concert in February. EMF is a highlight of the year and is an additional fun playing opportunity for kids looking to make more music! |
NYSSMANYSSMA is an annual festival for which individual music students prepare and perform a solo, scales, and sight-reading for a judge. The NYSSMA Judge (called an Adjudicator) provides a score and written feedback about the player's performance.
Registration typically starts in December, and the performance is in the spring. Music teachers may assist students in choosing music. The solo a student plays must be listed in the current NYSSMA manual, which is available in Mrs. Zielinski's classroom. Students should plan to prepare for NYSSMA outside of school, preferably with a private teacher. Not only is NYSSMA great for goal-setting and feedback, but if you do well, you have the chance to be selected for honors music groups like All-County during the following school year. If you're interested in NYSSMA, see Mrs. Zielinski for more information. |
